Everything You Should Know About The NYSC Orientation Camp

What Is NYSC Orientation Camp?

For those who have no idea about the orientation camp at all, an orientation camp is a place where corners spend the first three weeks of their service year, preparing rigorously for what is to come when everything begins. An orientation camp as the name implies is a place where you would get a proper explanation as regards coming for youth service.

Intending corners are to get to the camp early enough before the orientation activities start so as not to screw up the NYSC process. See how you can prepare for NYSC orientation camp so you can enjoy your stay here.

Why is this so?

Now, a lot of registration process goes on before the camping activities start. So, if you are nowhere to be found during those registration processes then you might have to blame yourself for screwing things up. Therefore, it is advisable to get to the camp early and get everything done before activities.

What Documents Do I Need On Getting To The Camp?

  1. Your school identity card

This is very important as it would be needed for your registration process to go on smoothly. You have to provide the card for proper identification.

  1. Statement of result

At the registration point, you would be needing to tender your statement of result to aid your registration process.

  1. Call up letter

This is a very important document that should be presented at the registration point. Without this document, you’re not yet a copper. So, until you print out your call-up, only then would you be addressed as a youth service member.

After NYSC Registration, What Next?

You would find out why it is important to get to the orientation camp before time. After you have completed your registration, you would be provided with your NYSC kits( two white shirts and shorts and a pair of tennis shoes).

You would also be provided with your state code number, a ticket for your meal, a file where you can keep all of your documents, and also you would have to fill in your name to the Book of Life as stated by the NYSC body. Sounds funny right? You would encounter more weird moments in the camp!!!

It is important that you check out every instruction on files, and read their page to page to ensure that you are not missing out on anything you should do. Fill out all of your details in block letters.

About your meal ticket

You should guard your meal tickets well to avoid misplacement. If you cannot find your ticket then you might just be going on hunger strike because without it you wouldn’t be able to get food. Sadly, you can’t even use that of a friend to get food. Do not be careless with it, I repeat do not be careless.

Accommodation

At the camp, you would be provided with a mattress and you would be given a bed space. Ensure you do not claim two spaces as it can attract punishment in the camp. Note that this would only be given to you when you have carried out all registration and screening processes.

About the OBS crew

This is just that section of NYSC that deals with the passing on of information round the camp. So, if you have an interest in being part of the team, you should just go through the right process to join them.

Things You Should Not Do On Camp

Do not be disorganized

You have no reason to be disorganized in the orientation camp. If you find a queue at some point then you should respect yourself by joining it instead of trying to screw up the whole arrangement. Beyond NYSC, you should be organized in all settings you find yourself in.

No fighting in the camp

Fighting in the camp would attract serious punishment from the soldiers. I bet you would not want to experience any of those.

No stealing in the camp

Sometimes I feel like those who engage in activities like this are brave because how would you keep your eyes open and steal where there are soldiers? This is funny but at the same time deadly. You would face severe punishment in the camp and you would not like yourself. Speak to yourself and also advise your neighbors.

Do not go around carrying fake information

Except the information is legit, do not go around carrying news that is not verified. The camp, according to some people, is a stressful place already. You would add to the stress by passing rumors. You shouldn’t be caught doing that.

Always put on your uniform

You see those white accessories given to you, you should put them on regularly except otherwise.
