Egusi Soup remains one of the popular sumptuous delicacies in Nigerian culture. Whether at home, restaurants, weddings and other social functions, it’s longed for by all and sundry.

The soup isn’t particular to any tribe or ethnic group as it is prepared by most tribes in Nigeria, though with a significant variation. It is prepared using leafy and other vegetables and is thickened with ground melon seeds.

The cuisine can also be made more exquisite with goat, beef, fish, or shellfish. And it’s often best served with dishes such as pounded yam, etc.

  • Grounded Egusi (melon powder)

  • Palm oil
  • Crayfish

Instruction on How to Cook Egusi Soup With Frying Method

If you don’t know where to start from on how to cook a yummy Egusi soup via frying method, we’ve got you covered. Follow the step-by-step procedure below:

Step 1

Wash your meat and add some spice to it (seasoning cube, salt and so on). Then add little water and place leave to heat until your meat is tender.

Step 2

While your meat is boiling, go ahead to blend your pepper and wash your smoked fish.

Step 3

After your meat is soft, transfer it into a clean bowl and keep it for later.

Step 4

Pour some palm oil into a clean pot, and place it on the stove to heat.

Step 5

Pour your grounded egusi and fry on low to medium heat for 10 minutes.

Step 6

Pour in a little of the stock gotten from your meat and also your pepper mix.

Step 7

Add some seasoning cubes and crayfish, stir and cover to cook.

Step 8

After the mixture of pepper, stock and egusi is cooked, add your stock fish and other condiments you intend to use, then cover and allow to heat.

Step 9

After 5 minutes, open your pot, add your vegetables and stir to get a good mix. Now cover and allow to cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
