Right Way to do NYSC Monthly Biometrics

Corps members are not advised to miss NYSC monthly biometrics/ clearance (the monthly finger capturing). Anyone who dares is liable to punishment ranging from forfeiture of stipend to extension of service year. The best thing for corps members is to show up during monthly clearance, and in this post you’ll learn the right way to do the monthly finger capturing. Let’s jump in!

What is NYSC Monthly Biometrics

Monthly biometrics is a prerequisite for serving corps members to get their allowance from the Federal Government. It is, in most cases, done at the Local Government Secretariat, where the Local Government Inspector (LGI) has an office. According to NYSC, the sole aim of the monthly clearance is to mark a register to show that you are still serving and have not absconded.

The clearance begins from the first day of the month and is fixed for 10 days, excluding weekends and public holidays. Corps members’ monthly schedules are usually uploaded on the NYSC dashboard to notify them about the exercise. However, some local inspectors may schedule different days for the exercise based on the batch and/or stream corps members belong to.

Once the schedule is out, corps members are to begin the process by getting a clearance letter from the head of their PPA. The clearance letter must be signed and stamped by their employers before the letter is submitted to their NYSC LGI. If the NYSC LGI is satisfied, he/she will grant corps members access to a biometric thumbprint. After thumb printing, corps members’ data will be sent to the NYSC ICT department at Abuja headquarters for recording.

If discovered that your status is showing as “Absent” having been cleared for that month, it is advised to see your LGI as soon as possible.

Effect of missing NYSC monthly clearance

Below are the harmful effects of missing NYSC monthly clearance:

  • You will not be paid your monthly allowance.
  • Extension of your service year based on number of months missed, after facing a disciplinary committee.

Note: If there is something that will cause you to miss the monthly biometrics, make sure that you get approval from NYSC. The approval can only be got by writing a request letter to your State Coordinator through your Zonal Inspector and through your LGI.

What to do if you miss NYSC clearance

If you miss your clearance, you either run to your LGI and explain the reason if you feel your LGI can render help, or you run to your State Coordinator to beg for mercy. This however doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be pardoned!
